THE BRAIN AND THE COMPUTER: DO BOTH WORK IN SAME MANNER?

The modern computer has evolved rapidly over time. The computer was designed with semblance to the human brain as its main purpose. This semblance to the human brain is known as the present day artificial intelligence With this similarity comes the resemblance between the computer and the human brain. The following are the similarities between the computer and the human brain-

INFORMATION GATHERING, GROWING,PROCESSING AND TRANSMITION

Information can be stored by both the computer and the human brain. This comes in the form of memory that can be recalled. Also both have the capability to increase memory storage capacity.

BOTH CAN RUN TASKS

The computer can run tasks like managing complex production lines in factories. The human brain can perform tasks like learning, walking, breathing, washing, driving and reading.

BOTH HAVE DIFFERENT COMPONENT PARTS WHICH WORK TOGETHER

The computer consists of different parts like the Motherboard (where the memory resides), Hard disks, Keyboard, CPU, Compact disk, monitor and mouse. This component parts work together to collect, process and transmit information or perform a task. The human brains on the other hand also do have component parts like the Cerebrum which is the largest part of the brain consisting of the right and left hemisphere.

The Cerebellum which is located under the Cerebrum, the brain stems which include the Midbrain, Pons and Medulla. These parts work together for the human brain to perform different tasks.

BOTH CAN UNDERSTAND

The computer can understand what it sees and observes. This enables it perform simple tasks and more complex ones. The human brain also performs similar function of understanding, by what it sees and observes.

ABILITY TO RETRIEVE DATA

The computer can retrieve data stored, likewise the human brain.

BOTH HAVE THE ABILITY TO BE RETRAINED

The computer and the human brain both have the ability to be retrained. Information stored in both the computer and the human brain can be modified from time to time.

BOTH CAN BE DAMAGED

Both the computer and the human brain can be damaged. The computer can lose information when certain part of its memory is damaged. The computer back-up system plays an important role in restoring the lost data. The human brain behaves in a similar way. When a part of it is damaged, another part takes over the function.
